B I O- / F I L M O G R A P H I E ERICH LACKNER Erich Lackner was born in Vienna in 1948. After graduating from technical high school, he started a successful career as a skier and mountaineer. In 1977 he shot his first movie on the ascent of the "Lotus Flower Tower" in Canada before working for Jalbert Productions NY as a cameraman in the Ski Worldcup. When he founded Lotus-Film in 1982, Erich Lackner - who had meanwhile earned a degree in psychology - produced mostly mountain films and political documentaries and was himself usually also the director of photography. Since the early 1990s, however, Erich Lackner and Lotus-Film have begun specializing in the production of full-length feature films and documentaries by young Austrian authors and directors, produced mainly in cooperation with Austrian and European film funding institutions and European TV stations. LOTUS-FILM GES.M.B.H Founded by Erich Lackner in 1982, LOTUS-Film has emerged as Austria's foremost producer of art house films and cinema documentaries. Lotus-Film presented Barbara Albert's "Northern Skirts" in competition in Venice in 1999. Other milestones in the company's history: Michael Glawogger's internationally acclaimed "Megacities," and the films "Animal Love" and "Loss Is to Be Expected" by the award-winning Austrian director Ulrich Seidl. Lotus-Film was also a partner in a number of international co-productions.
